Found and Vanished: The Alleged Murder Weapon from Compton
Found in Compton in 1998, tested in 2006, vanished by 2017: The conflicting reports surrounding an alleged murder weapon in the Tupac Shakur murder case.
On May 30, 1998, a resident found a .40-caliber Glock in a backyard in Compton. Compton police booked it as found property. Nearly twenty years later, it turned into a new lead: in December 2017, the A&E series Who Killed Tupac? sparked headlines (see series premiere).
A Match That Never Reached Las Vegas
According to reports by TMZ, picked up by AllHipHop and Vibe, the Sheriff’s Department took over the Compton Police Department in 2000. Around 3,800 firearms went there, including this one. In 2006, a deputy reportedly had it tested, and the result was said to be a match. A federal prosecutor reportedly recommended not transferring the weapon to Las Vegas so as not to alert potential co-conspirators. Las Vegas police reportedly do not know where the weapon is.
Destroyed or Missing: Neither Version Is Proven
Just over a week later, The Source reported a conflicting version: the weapon had allegedly been destroyed by federal agents, and the test had only indicated a possibility. Neither version is proven. More on the state of the case: investigations.
