Tupac's "Powamekka Café": Pop-up in Fresno for the 20th Anniversary of His Death
A restaurant with its own recipes: How Take 3 in Fresno picked up Tupac's unrealized "Powamekka Café" concept for the 20th anniversary of his death.
Before his death, Tupac designed a logo and concept for a music-themed restaurant called Powamekka Cafe: artists were to contribute their own recipes. That never came to pass. On September 13, 2016, the 20th anniversary of his death, the restaurant Take 3 in Fresno, California, opened the pop-up “The Powamekka Café” with a menu meant to commemorate Tupac.
“California Love” and Tupac Songs Starting at 7 p.m.
According to Billboard, the menu featured items including “Thug Passion” cake pops, “Mac-and-Cheeseburgers,” and a “California Love” chicken sandwich. The celebration began at 7 p.m.; local artists could cover Tupac songs. Rolling Stone, Vibe, and AllHipHop had already reported on the event the week before.
After Fresno Came New York and Los Angeles
The concept was later revived: a Powamekka Café opened in New York in 2017 (report), followed by another in Los Angeles in 2022 (report). Background on Tupac’s business plans: His companies.
