Gucci Mane Samples Tupac on “On Me”

“I feel like 2Pac when he made All Eyez on Me,” Gucci Mane raps over heavy drums. On July 6, 2016, his single “On Me” was released featuring a sample of Tupac. According to Rolling Stone, the snippet comes from “F*** ‘Em All” off the posthumous album Better Dayz (2002). Vibe wrote that Gucci and 2Pac met on one track; Billboard and The Source also covered the song.

Fresh Out of Prison, Lonely at the Top

Gucci Mane had been released from prison in May 2016, where he had been incarcerated for firearm possession. “On Me” was the precursor to his album Everybody Looking, which features guest appearances by Kanye West and Young Thug. The lyrics deal with detox, expensive jewelry, and his standing in rap; he calls himself lonely at the top.

This places the track among the many songs that subsequently use Tupac recordings (see Influence on other artists).
