Fan Art Instead of Film News: Estate Announces Online Exhibition
First the web buzzed over a biopic, then it was about art: on September 13, 2015, Tupac's estate showcases 20 fan works on Instagram and Twitter.
On August 23, 2015, a single tweet was enough to fuel speculation: the verified Twitter account of 2Pac.com announced a “special announcement” from the estate for the following day at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. AllHipHop reported that the internet was buzzing with speculation about a biopic launch, especially since actor Marcc Rose and John Singleton were working on a project of their own. Yet the news was not about a film, but about the fans.
20 Works on the Anniversary of His Death
The announcement turned out to be more modest: the estate organized an art exhibit on social media. Fans could submit work; on September 13, 2015, the anniversary of his death, 20 original works by 20 artists were to be selected and showcased on Tupac’s Instagram and Twitter pages.
The estate’s Facebook page explained the rationale, noting that Tupac’s message inspires people worldwide to reveal truth through fearless self-expression. The hashtags #2PacArt and #RIP2Pac served as identifiers.
