Jada Pinkett Smith Calls Tupac a Father Figure
On "The Arsenio Hall Show" in 2014, Jada Pinkett Smith spoke about her youth and explained why Tupac became a father figure to her.
On Friday, February 28, 2014, actress Jada Pinkett Smith was a guest on The Arsenio Hall Show. Host Arsenio Hall asked her about her relationship with Tupac, with whom she had been friends since their school days in Baltimore. On March 2, Vibe and The Source picked up on the conversation.
What a Father Usually Gives
Pinkett Smith described him as a kind of father figure: “Pac was probably one of the first male figures that I had in my life that saw the beauty and the talent and my intelligence, separated from sex.” A young girl usually gets that from her father; she had not had that.
Earlier in the show, she had spoken about her childhood: her mother had her at 18, and their relationship was difficult due to addiction and youth. She learned to navigate both the good life and the difficult life. More on her and Tupac: Jada Pinkett Smith.
