Tupac as a Jedi: The Alleged Audition for "Star Wars"
In 2014, a former Death Row sound engineer claimed Tupac was to audition for Mace Windu. Beyond this account, there is no evidence.
“They wanted him to be a Jedi”: with this sentence, Rick Clifford circulated an anecdote in early January 2014. The former sound engineer for Death Row Records recounted in an interview with the fan site 2Pac-Forum that Tupac had told him he was supposed to audition for George Lucas. Samuel L. Jackson then got the role. Rolling Stone identified this as Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episode I (1999). On January 8, Musikexpress and Rolling Stone Germany also picked up the report.
Lucasfilm confirms nothing, the timing is unclear
The reports cite no confirmation from Lucasfilm or others involved. Rolling Stone points out that the timing is unclear. Filming began in June 1997, just under a year after Tupac’s death.
Tupac appeared on camera in seven films during his lifetime; his roles are documented. An audition for “Star Wars” is not among the verified milestones.
