Tupac Musical "Holler If Ya Hear Me" Set for Broadway
Tupac's songs on Broadway, but without him as a character on stage: Kenny Leon plans the musical "Holler If Ya Hear Me" for the 2013-14 season.
Tupac’s music is headed for Broadway, but Tupac himself is not a character in the show. On June 24 and 25, 2013, several media outlets announced that the musical, planned for years, was slated to go there. It is titled “Holler If Ya Hear Me” after the song from the album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z..
Not a Biography, but the Story of Two Friends
According to The Guardian, it tells the story of two childhood friends in an industrial Midwestern city. Kenny Leon, who called Tupac “a prophet,” directs. Todd Kreidler wrote the book, Wayne Cilento handles choreography, and Daryl Waters serves as musical director.
Target Is the 2013/14 Season
The lead-up had already begun in 2012 with casting. AllHipHop had already reported in April on a five-week trial run during the New York summer; according to Complex, the target date was the 2013/14 season. How it continued is shown in the January 8, 2014 report.
