Biopic Director Antoine Fuqua: Deal in Place, Script Missing
Contract signed, script unfinished: why director Antoine Fuqua put the brakes on the Tupac biopic in 2013 and which writers were in talks.
The contract is in place, but the script is missing: in mid-March 2013, director Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) put the brakes on the Tupac film that had been announced back in 2010. According to AllHipHop, he told the blog The Playlist that the movie was “announced too soon.” He explained that he had a deal, but the screenplay was not ready yet; they wanted to get it right.
The film was intended to chronicle the final days: the drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and Tupac’s mindset during that time. Fuqua also wanted to cast unknown actors.
Blogs Bring Michael Starrbury into Play
On March 13, The Source reported that, according to film blogs, the screenwriting team of Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson might possibly be replaced by Michael Starrbury. That was a blog report, not a confirmation. How the story continued is shown in the September 19, 2013 report. An overview of Tupac’s film work is provided in the filmography.
