Dr. Dre: the Tupac projection was "strictly for Coachella"
After the second Coachella weekend, Dr. Dre denied touring plans for the Tupac projection without ruling them out entirely.
On April 22, 2012, the second Coachella Sunday, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg took the stage again with the Tupac projection. Anyone hoping for a tour was disappointed soon after.
Called off on video
Backstage, Dre recorded a short video that made the rounds on April 23. He wanted to end the rumors: “It was strictly for Coachella, get it right.” The projection had not been made for a tour. He did not want to close the door entirely: “If a tour happens, we’ll see.” He thanked AV Concepts, which projected the image, and Digital Domain, which created it. Billboard, Rolling Stone, Complex and rap.de reported the denial.
Hendrix, Gaye and a bankruptcy
A few days earlier, Dre had told TMZ he was interested in more appearances and named Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye as candidates. The sources reviewed show no tour for the rest of the year. In September, Digital Domain filed for bankruptcy.
