Arranged to Meet in Las Vegas: Nas on His Meeting With Tupac
A fight almost broke out, then they wanted to make peace: In March 2012, Nas spoke about his final encounter with Tupac.
Shortly before Tupac’s death, two rivals wanted to settle their dispute. At the South by Southwest festival in Austin, New York rapper Nas spoke on a panel with manager Steve Stoute in March 2012 about his career and his relationship with Tupac.
“We Are Brothers”: Accusations in New York
According to Vibe, he described a personal encounter: Tupac said they were brothers and should never go at each other, but added he had heard Nas was dissing him on mixtapes. Nas countered that he had heard about attacks on Tupac’s Makaveli album.
The situation had been dangerous, but cooler heads defused it. Nas told Billboard in April that the encounter following an awards show in New York had almost ended in a brawl; later, they reconciled.
Arranged to Meet in Las Vegas
Both had wanted to continue the conversation and settle the matter. He had arranged to meet with Tupac in Las Vegas, until Stoute and Jimmy Iovine called him at 4 a.m.: Tupac might not make it.
Thus, Nas’s memory remains a firsthand anecdote on the East Coast-West Coast rivalry; regarding the feud, see also Nas.
