Keisha Morris Speaks in XXL About Her Marriage to Tupac

Prison wedding, annulment after ten months: In September 2011, Tupac's only wife Keisha Morris broke her long silence in XXL.

Keisha Morris had not given any interviews since 2003. At the time, she felt unfairly portrayed in the biography Tupac: Resurrection. In the September 2011 issue of the magazine XXL, the now 38-year-old educator from New York shared her story once more, in her own words for the last time.

Met in a Club, Married in Prison

According to her own account, she met Tupac in New York in the summer of 1994. After an initial encounter at a nightclub, he reportedly tracked her down. On April 29, 1995, the two married at the Clinton Correctional Facility, where Tupac was serving his sentence. He wanted her to be recognized as his wife and not just as a girlfriend, Morris said. She dismissed the rumor that he had married her because of the visiting rules for married couples: such visits never took place.

“You Will Always Be Mrs. Shakur”

Ten months later, shortly after Tupac’s release, the marriage was annulled. She reportedly felt that he no longer needed her. They stayed in touch nonetheless, until a few days before the shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996. During their last meeting, he reportedly said she would always be Mrs. Shakur. More about Tupac’s time behind bars can be found under Tupac’s Incarceration 1995.
