ESPN Shoots "One Night in Vegas" About Tupac and Mike Tyson

A boxing match, a friendship, a planned party: In 2010, ESPN announced a film about Tupac's last evening with Mike Tyson, airing on September 7.

In late July 2010, ESPN Films presented new episodes of its documentary series 30 for 30. One of them was not about a sporting event alone: One Night in Vegas tells the story of the evening of September 7, 1996, on which Tupac saw the fight between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon.

A Friendship and a Party That Never Happened

According to AllHipHop, the focus is on the friendship between Tyson and Tupac. After Tyson’s first-round knockout victory, the two wanted to celebrate together. That party never came to pass: later that same night, Tupac was shot on the Las Vegas Strip, and on September 13, he died.

The film was directed by Reggie “Rock” Bythewood. According to AllHipHop, the project was created with the full support of Mike Tyson. It was scheduled to air on September 7, 2010, exactly 14 years to the day after the shooting.

What took place at the MGM Grand before their departure is described on the page The Brawl at the MGM Grand; the hours before and after are recounted in The Final Week.
