Fire Destroys Afeni Shakur's Guest House in North Carolina
On the evening of July 6, 2007, the guest house of Tupac's mother burned down in Robeson County. Nobody was injured.
Around 7 p.m. on July 6, 2007, fire broke out in the guest house of Afeni Shakur. The house stood in Robeson County, North Carolina, on an approximately 56-acre farm where Tupac’s mother, according to AllHipHop, grew certified organic crops and kept animals.
Three fire departments responded to bring the blaze under control. The building could not be saved: authorities classified it as a total loss. The report did not state a cause.
Nobody was injured because no one was in the house at the time of the fire. Afeni Shakur thanked the career and volunteer firefighters as well as the neighbors who had helped quickly, and said they were lucky that nobody had been home.
The area is more than just a place of residence for the family. Afeni Shakur spent part of her childhood in Lumberton; the family’s roots in the US reach back there to ancestors who had lived as slaves.
