Gobi's Photo Book "Thru My Eyes" Features Unreleased Photos from Tupac's Final Year
On November 1, 2005, video director Gobi released his book: 50 previously unpublished photos from Tupac's 1996, with a foreword by Afeni Shakur.
Gobi had directed Tupac’s last three music videos and worked closely with him in 1996. On November 1, 2005, his book “Thru My Eyes: Thoughts on Tupac Amaru Shakur in Pictures and Words” was released by Atria Books. According to the report by AllHipHop, it compiles 50 color and black-and-white photos that had never been published before, each with personal commentary.
Working Up to 22 Hours a Day
Many pictures were taken on video and film sets. They showed Tupac’s work ethic, Gobi said: Tupac was able to work up to 22 hours a day, raising the bar for everyone around him. The book did not want to show him as a manufactured pop star, but with his many moods. At the end, Gobi describes what it was like having to wait idly during the seven days in the hospital.
Foreword by His Mother
Afeni Shakur wrote the foreword. She thanked Gobi for having been a friend to her son. Part of the proceeds went to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. Gobi also announced that he would adapt Tupac’s screenplay “Live 2 Tell” into a film in March 2006.
