Snoop Dogg Honors Tupac and Biggie at the Apollo Theater

At a concert in Harlem on May 2, 2005, Snoop Dogg dedicated a joint segment of his show to The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.

On the evening of May 2, 2005, Snoop Dogg took the stage at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. On May 12, AllHipHop described the concert as an evening of vintage classics and as a declaration of peace in multiple respects. Nine years after Tupac’s death and eight years after the death of The Notorious B.I.G., the Long Beach rapper honored both during a segment of his show.

First Biggie, Then Tupac

He wanted to give the East Coast some love, Snoop shouted to the audience, then a photo of Biggie appeared on two large screens. Snoop let the music play, rapped “Hypnotize” along with the crowd, and left “One More Chance” to the women in the audience. Tupac’s “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” the track Snoop had recorded with Tupac in 1996, followed next. According to AllHipHop, a highlight of the evening was a guest appearance by Ice-T; Daz Dillinger and Kurupt were also on stage for most of the night.

Peace on the West Coast

The gesture fit Snoop’s course that spring. A few weeks earlier, on April 13, he had organized a gathering of around 80 West Coast rappers in North Hollywood aimed at settling old disputes. Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur told AllHipHop at the time that she was praying for young people to find solid ways to resolve conflicts.
