Two months after release: On February 15, 2005, the RIAA certified Tupac's album "Loyal to the Game" Platinum.
On February 15, 2005, a good two months after its release, the US industry association RIAA certified Loyal to the Game Platinum. The award represents one million copies shipped to retailers.
An Album from Eminem’s Studio
The album was released on December 14, 2004, on Amaru and Interscope, entering at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 the following week with 330,000 copies sold. Twelve of the 16 songs had been built by Eminem from previously unreleased Tupac verses. Also from the album is “Ghetto Gospel”, which reached No. 1 in Great Britain in the summer of 2005.
According to figures from Nielsen SoundScan cited by Billboard in October 2006, Loyal to the Game had sold 1.14 million copies in the US up to that point.
Platinum for a Documentary as Well
In the same year, the RIAA issued another Tupac-related Platinum award: On August 5, 2005, the documentary film Thug Angel: The Life of an Outlaw was certified as a video release. An overview of all awards is provided on the page Sales Figures and Certifications.
