Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Features Hip-Hop Exhibition with Tupac
In early 2000, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland announced the show "Rhymes & Rage: The Hip Hop Story." Tupac is among the featured artists.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is dedicating an exhibition of its own to hip-hop. As AllHipHop reported on January 4, 2000, the show “Rhymes & Rage: The Hip Hop Story” was scheduled to open in February for Black History Month and run through August.
The museum aimed to showcase the music, language, and lifestyle of the genre and trace its influence on the politics, society, and economy of American pop culture. The arc was intended to span from Cab Calloway and the spoken-word art of the 1930s to the commercial breakthrough of rap in the 1980s.
One part of the exhibition was devoted to political and social messages and the controversies surrounding rap lyrics. There, the museum presented Tupac Shakur alongside Ice-T and 2 Live Crew. A good three years after his death, Tupac was thus part of a museum history of hip-hop. Later museum exhibitions on his work can be found under Tupac in the Museum.
