Snoop Doggy Dogg and Puffy Combs Declare the East-West Feud Over
At a sitcom taping, Death Row and Bad Boy stood side by side: In February 1997, Snoop and Puffy called on fans to let the dispute rest.
On February 12, 1997, Snoop Doggy Dogg of Death Row and Sean “Puffy” Combs of Bad Boy appeared before the press together. The occasion was the taping of an episode of the “Steve Harvey Show” for the WB network. Both called for an end to the rivalry between the East and West Coast that had overshadowed hip-hop for two years. Combs said the media and fans should let the matter rest; Snoop reminded everyone that children all over the world are watching.
Five Months After Tupac’s Death
The Los Angeles Times recalled the origin of the feud: Tupac had linked Combs, The Notorious B.I.G. and others to the 1994 robbery in New York in which he was shot. Combs now called the threats “hype”; he had nothing against Death Row.
On the same day, Snoop also spoke of a reconciliation with Dr. Dre and a collaborative album. Four weeks later, Biggie was shot and killed in Los Angeles. The background is recounted in East against West.
