Midnight Sale: "The Don Killuminati" by Makaveli Is Released
Two hours in line for the last album: On November 5, 1996, "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory" was released, recorded under the name Makaveli.
At 0:01 a.m. on November 5, 1996, 19-year-old Lisee Shans put 9.99 dollars on the counter at Odyssey Records in Las Vegas. She had waited two hours to be the first in the city to get the last album Tupac had recorded before his death: The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, released under the pseudonym Makaveli. On the phone that evening, an employee answered as a “Tupac specialist”.
Tyson Came a Day Too Early
The day before, Mike Tyson had asked for the record at Tower Records on West Sahara Avenue and did not want to believe that it was not yet available, the store manager said.
The album was shipped by MCA, the first gangsta rap record the corporation distributed itself from the partnership with Interscope. The Los Angeles Times critic warned against giving it too much weight: that Tupac was releasing under a different name pointed to a side project that showed only one side of him. Where the name comes from is explained in Makaveli and Machiavelli.
