Honor: Star No. 2,758 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Recording category Location: 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles Date: Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 10:30 a.m.

Brass and terrazzo line the sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard. Since June 2023, a star for Tupac Shakur has also rested there-number 2,758 on the Walk of Fame and one of the most visible honors in the Los Angeles cityscape.

Selected in 2013, Unveiled Ten Years Later

According to its own statements, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce selected Tupac for a star as early as 2013. The Chamber then waited until the family and estate named a date. Ten years passed before it came. The June 2023 date fell during his birthday month (June 16) and into the 50th year of hip-hop.

Tears at the Microphone: Sekyiwa Shakur Accepts the Star

The Chamber unveiled the star on June 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Radio host Big Boy hosted the ceremony. Tupac’s half-sister Sekyiwa Shakur accepted the star. In her speech, tears came to her eyes as she spoke of how her brother had dreamed of one day having a star on the Walk of Fame: “We honor the work and the passion that he put into his dreams,” she said in essence (NBC News, EURweb).

A Street Festival Instead of a Memorial Service

Additional speeches were given by Jamal Joseph, Tupac’s godfather and adviser to the estate, director Allen Hughes (Dear Mama), rapper YG, and members of the Outlawz. Hughes called it fitting that in the year of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, the art form’s greatest star was finally on the Walk of Fame, and placed Tupac in a line with icons such as Malcolm X and Che Guevara (theGrio). More on the docuseries on the Dear Mama page.

According to the report by the Los Angeles Times, which other media outlets picked up, the morning felt like a celebration rather than a memorial service. Family, friends, and companions stood on a red carpet on the street closed to traffic. Behind barricades, hundreds rapped along to his songs while vendors sold T-shirts with his face.

In 2023, Tupac Was in the Conversation Anyway

The star came in a year when Tupac was in the conversation anyway: on April 21, 2023, the docuseries Dear Mama had premiered on FX, and hip-hop was celebrating its 50th anniversary. Sekyiwa Shakur, who according to EURweb leads the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, spoke for the family in Hollywood. She had accepted the star, while Afeni Shakur, his mother, had died seven years earlier. Three years later, in May 2026, she returned to Baltimore for the street dedication, see Baltimore.

A Star for a Lifetime of Work, 27 Years After His Death

The Walk of Fame honors not an individual work, but a lifetime of work in an industry-here, music. The fact that Tupac received it 27 years after his death fits the other late honors: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2017) and Grammy Hall of Fame (2026), more on Awards and Monuments.

The short news item of the day can be found in the news of June 7, 2023.

Free and Publicly Accessible (as of October 2026)

The star is located in the sidewalk, publicly accessible and free to visit. The area surrounding 6212 Hollywood Boulevard is a lively part of Hollywood with traffic and tourists. The address designates a spot on the street, not a residential home.
